This last week has been a very harried week full of hours-long calls to insurance companies trying to work out stupid things that should not have been issues and, more seriously, a car accident. Not mine but a family member. Everyone is fine, but the horror remains.
Despite that, I actually did fix Hannah’s shawl in a respectable and nice looking way. I still had some remnant yarn from the project, but it seems the shawl itself has faded a bit from the original color. For the most part, this is the give away to where I made my repair. Please excuse the massive difference in color between the pictures. The first was taken in the south facing back of my house and the second in the north facing front of my house. This is why artists like northern light. Look how sexy that color is! It’s also much closer to the actual color of the shawl, so, again, hip hip hooray for northern light.
I have been continuing to work on my mother’s wrap. It’s a slow process, especially because the last week was so full of my life busily happening all around me. I need to work about 18 more inches and then I can start the second triangle. I think I will have enough yarn left for a little foot wide center section and a miniscule border.
I’m really thinking I will need to buy another hank of yarn, which of course begs the question: Do I buy the same color and hope for the best since dye lots in Manos del Uruguay are not always a reliable thing (This is part of what makes them awesome, but it can be trying.) or do I just get a second color for the border? I’m thinking about getting a second color right now. Let’s hope I just magically have enough yarn and I can add a nice border and the pretty center section to join the triangles. I love designing on the fly, but it can be irritating sometimes.
I offered to make a gift for my cousin’s son’s upcoming wedding and they have requested a name doily. So I ordered up some thread and spent an afternoon drafting out the name and the border as they wished it. Hopefully it goes well. We shall see. I’ve made doilies before, but that was years ago before I needed to use reading glasses and before my fingers started to hurt when I use tiny yarns, which is all I use so my fingers hurt all the time. I do not care. I love what I make.
That’s my week! I hope your week was calmer than that. I wish you happy crafting in the week ahead and always.
