Weekly project update: The shawl grows and a mess of little circles develops

I think I only have crazy busy weeks now. I keep waiting for a calm week that will allow me to feel like I not only got a bunch of work done but also make me feel like I caught up a bit. I need to learn to live well and happily in a state of chaos because that magical week of calm is not coming. Someday it may, and I will not know what to do with myself when it does.

I have continued working on the wrap for my mother. I finished one side and started the mirror image second side. I even wrote down a little diagram for myself to follow so it didn’t get weird. I’m super glad I did because reversing the pattern on paper was way easier than reversing it in my head. I got really used to how the pattern worked and it took me a while to get used to working in reverse. I don’t think it’s actually particularly hard. I think I’m just weird.

I made Hannah hold the finished side up to herself before I cut the yarn. It was already pretty long, so I opted to end that side where it was and not go for something the same length as Hannah’s purple flower wrap. It’s going to be fine, and I might have enough yarn for the border. Or I’ll have enough for the border minus like two yards because of course.

Since January 20th, I’ve been making little circles in a mess of different colors of Malabrigo silkpaca yarn with a 2 mm hook. I pick the colors without looking at the bag they live in and then make them to the size that feels right for the day. So far, I haven’t made any greater than eight rounds, which is fine because there are going to be a lot of them. I’ve decided to make one for each day for the next four years as a protest and as a reminder that there are good things in the world. As the little circles pile up, I will have a visual record of time passing, which, right now, I really need.

So here’s my little pile so far in color and black and white. I seem to have a good balance of lights and darks right now. I tend to favor darker, more saturated colors, so I think doing black and white photos throughout my process is going to be important so it doesn’t skew too far into the dark. Or maybe there’s a meaning there I shouldn’t ignore.

I do not know why the edges of my little circles are curling in. I counted the stitches on each of them, and I corrected them if I went wrong. The quiet counting is part of the making process for me, but it also means I know the rounds have the correct number of stitches. I think they are all just being contrary.

I did block one. It’s the little, bright green one. That one is nice and flat, so it is possible. The rest of them just want to be grumpy I guess. I get it. Me too sometimes.

I hope your week is going well. Happy crafting!
