And another week of chaos has passed. I don’t know how to keep myself from doom scrolling for hours. It’s eating into my crochet time, but I keep thinking I will find a magical answer to how the chaos in the United States ends if I just read enough articles and watch enough interviews. Right now, it feels like it ends with everyone bankrupt and fighting off various diseases we shouldn’t be seeing anymore. I’m feeling a bit, no, a lot hopeless right now, but I did crochet, so I’ll show you how that’s going.
I am almost finished with the second panel. I hoped to have it done by now, but, you know, the doom scrolling was very present this week. I hope to finish up in the next week and start the middle joining section. Then a quick border and it’s all over but the ends. It’s always the ends.
Designwise, I am happy with this shawl. I plan to use a different textured lace stitch for the joining section (No, I haven’t picked it yet. I’m like that.), but I think I will need to create a little border between the two so it doesn’t get busy and weird. Perhaps a few stitches of linked double crochets worked at the beginning and end of each row would be enough to create a little border between the laces and make it look purposeful and planned. I will have to experiment.
I did have a funny experience this week. I was watching a video by the Knitting Cult Lady, and she was knitting along at quite a clip. The more I watched, the more I found myself matching her pace. It was fast for the stitch pattern I’m doing, but not undoable. Perhaps I need to start watching knit and crochet with me videos to keep myself working and avoid the doom scrolling.
I did make more circles this week, so that project continues, as well. I need to block the little monsters so they lay flat and I can play with laying them out better. Perhaps that’s something I can do in the next few days since it is in the upper 60s and 70s here. I can wash the circles and set them out to dry in the sun. I feel like it can be the start of a new saying. Instead of “Make hay while the sun shines”, it can be “Dry your crochet while the planet burns”. Not quite the same ring, though, huh?
Sorry for the downer update. I hope your week is going better than mine. If it’s not, and for the same reasons, remember that we do not fight alone.
