This week I have the distinct horror of coming to you from the depths of a massive power outage in my area. We were expecting the bad storms, but apparently they were really bad. The electric company does not have an estimate for when our power will be restored. It could be anywhere from now to seven days from now. I guess, on an up note, one doesn’t need electricity to crochet so long as the sun is shining. And it is shining today. Of course for the next six days it’s supposed to rain, but let’s just focus on today.

I’m very happy to announce that one of the things I will not be working on in the next 5 to 7 days of power outage is my mother‘s wrap. It’s finished! Happy, happy day for me. I even washed it and blocked it and wove in its ends. And then I promptly hid it in a bag away from the stupid moths. Have I mentioned I hate moths?

And now we have those big black ants in addition to the moths. One had the audacity to bite me for sitting in my own dining room today. I do hate insects. I certainly don’t go around biting them.

So what am I working on now? I’ve started the border for Hannah‘s periwinkle wrap. It isn’t the project to finish up in May, but I’m really hoping to have it done for her birthday, which is coming up really quickly, so I’ve got to get moving. I have to finish the row I’m on now and then two more rows and the crochet work is done. Then it’s the standard weave the ends, wash, and block.

What should I actually be working on, you might ask? The doily. The name doily that’s due to be done in June is finally underway. Why? Because in the darkness, I can see the white thread. I have to say I don’t love it. It has a lot of aspects of crochet that I don’t like visually, like repeated double crochets that aren’t linked together and stand there looking stringy. Sigh. There’s nothing for it. I think it looks how it’s supposed to look. It just doesn’t look how I love. At least I can see the thread in the dark.

I hope your power is on. I hope it stays on. Happy crocheting!
