Crochet ideas and inspiration for the independent crafter

Sudden afghan project finished!

Well, aside from the ends, which are still unwoven as I write this, I did finish this project in a week. It surprises me a bit because I always think that bigger yarns go faster, but not ridiculously faster. In fact, they do go ridiculously faster. If I had tried this with my traditional and favored fingering weight yarn, I would be discussing this project for months.

I spend a lot of time crocheting, and I think I should stick with the fingering and lace weight yarns I normally use, so I have to buy less of it. I don’t know what I would do with the projects I might churn out with larger yarns either as they would be numerous. Is this why people do/find time to do charity crochet work? Hmm. That’s something to consider. Sometimes I think it would be nice to do some charity crochet work but it always seems daunting when the smallest things take me forever.

I did end up using the brown hank I set back as the border, but I did not make any motifs to go around the edges. I did have the yarn for it, but I did not have the emotional wherewithal to pull it off. In part, it came down to weaving ends, but there were smaller yarns and projects that made me happier to work with and on calling to me, so I am back to those. Doing moss stitch in a fingering weight yarn feels weird and very small now, though.

Missing motifs aside, I’m really happy with how this turned out. It’s a nice size for a lap-ghan and the colors go well together. I tried to combine them in aesthetically pleasing, non-moist ways, and I think I pulled it off. These are not my go to colors. I’m never going to like the green or the yellow yarns I used, but they work here. Color success is a fine thing.

I will weave the ends soon, so I can wash this project and be officially done with it. That will be nice. Finishing things always feels good.

Back to my tiny yarns!
